Today, we’re learning how to repurpose content. My take on it? It’s important AF.
If you haven’t done it, you need to start doing it ASAP.
If you have done it, you likely need to do it more.
Even as a content marketing expert, I know this is easier said than done. Figuring out what to repurpose and how to do it can be as daunting as starting from scratch on something new.
But here’s the thing: by repurposing your very best, most enticing content, you grow your following much faster by strengthening your position as an authority through quality, relevant content.
So today I want to share with you some of my best ideas on how to repurpose content – whether it be videos, blog posts and podcasts – into other forms of shareable content so you can reach more people with your best messages.
Before we begin with the tips, let’s first understand why it’s important to learn how to repurpose content.
1. You get more value for your efforts.
If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent hours down the rabbit hole of content creation. You do your best to make sure that every piece that you put out is of the best quality. You intend for your very best content to have a wide reach.
But here’s the problem: the online algorithm of social media sites is not always our friend. On average only 20% of your followers see your posts at any given time! Thus, it’s important to learn how to repurpose content in a variety of formats so your efforts are not minimized, more people see it and (most importantly) continue to share it…which brings me to my next point.
2. You increase your reach substantially.
The key benefit of repurposing content is that you reach WAY more people with your very best content.
By re-sharing your best content on social media, you increase not only the number of people in your fan base who see it, but you also increase the number of times they share it to their own networks. Google LOVES links to your content from others, and your content ranking will skyrocket when this starts to happen.
Let’s not forget that when you learn how to repurpose content, you also save a lot of time in the long run so you can focus on helping your clients and spending more time doing the things you love.
So, let’s get started with the tips…
How To Repurpose Content (The Easy Way!)
Create evergreen content.
What does ‘evergreen’ mean, you ask? Evergreen content pertains to content that continues to be relevant and valuable – even after months or years. For example, writing a blog post about the best ways to show your authentic self to your tribe will stay relevant even if someone stumbles on it next year, whereas, a post about the best SEO strategies for the year 2018 will only be relevant until that year ends.
By creating evergreen content, no matter what the format, you can continue to promote it on the social platforms in your content cycle so new fans and followers over time get their eyes (or ears) on it.
Automatically transcribe your podcasts and Facebook lives.
One hack I use to easily repurpose my FB lives into blog posts or social media posts is to automatically transcribe them as I do them. This saves me from re-listening to the recording and writing down the tips & examples I shared during the live.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Before you go live, go to www.drive.google.com
- Click New and then choose “Google Docs.” This will open a blank document.
- Under tools, choose “Voice Typing”
- Click the record button and then start your live. You’re all set!
As you share your wisdom through your live or podcast, the Google Docs voice typing tool will also automatically transcribe all your words. It will then take you half the time to highlight your best tips, format it into an article or post and share it on another day, in another way.
Update your most popular content.
If you have posts that were popular over a year ago, there are clever ways to reuse them and have them seen by new people. Here are some of my tips:
- Edit the description of a well-received live video or post you did on your Facebook feed This lets your followers know that the content may be old, but the message is still relevant. New followers will be seeing it for the first time, and older followers who may have missed it also get a chance to see it.
- Change the title of a popular blog post to add the current year (if the content still applies, update what doesn’t).
- Re-share content such as podcasts, blog posts or articles and highlight how different or the same your thoughts are now then they were over a year ago.
Using these three easy tips to repurpose content, you’ll boost your visibility without having to constantly slave over creating inspiring, relevant content.
